A crossroads can be a confusing place. So many choices - which way is the right way? When choosing a new path, do you abandon the one that you've been traveling for so long? The Melissa Institute is at a crossroads. But, far from being a place of confusion, it is an opportunity to forge a future, guided by our mission to prevent violence through the application of knowledge.

“Family Violence: Practical Ways to Intervene ”

Each year at least 1.6 million women in the U.S. are severely assaulted by their partners and over 900,000 children will be maltreated. It has been estimated that partner and child physical abuse co-occur in about 6% of all U.S. households. The rate of child maltreatment rises to 40% in families characterized by physical abuse. This conference will consider a variety of assessment and treatment approaches to family violence. It will highlight cultural and racial differences, policy decisions, legal issues and practical ways to intervene. More details are included in the attachments.
